It is also referred to as a rotating electrical interface, switch, manifold, hinge, or electrical rotating joint. It can improve electromechanical capabilities, simplify system design, and eliminate possible rotational damage. It is the key apparatus of various precision rotary work tables, electrical test instruments, manufacturing and process control instruments.

The LPS-10 individual slip ring is a standard off-the-shelf device that utilizes gold contacts on the rotating interface. Color-coded wires are used on both the stator and rotor to simplify electrical connections.

By utilizing a 90° V-groove in the design of each ring, the LPS-10 provides smoother running, lower torque and less electrical noise than competitive slip rings.
