The slip ring, also known as collector ring in the military and shipbuilding industries, is mainly used in these two main sectors. By differentiating slip rings, we can classify them according to their structure, modules and functions. Differentiation can be made according to the installation platform, such as aircraft mounted slip rings, vehicle mounted slip rings for automobiles and ship mounted slip rings.

In terms of functional differences, the simplest slip rings only support power transmission and are produced in very limited quantities. On the other hand, some slip rings have the ability to transmit power and electrical signals simultaneously. These products are usually customised to meet specific requirements. Due to the fact that slip rings can support more than 30 different types of signals, slip rings that combine power and electrical signal transmission are currently the most widely produced type.

In slip ring signals, high frequency signals and optical fibre signals are somewhat unique. Both of these signal types require slip rings with the appropriate functionality. High-frequency slip rings can support up to four channels with frequencies ranging from 3 GHz to 40 GHz. Optical fibre slip rings come in both multi-mode and single-mode, with the largest number of channels reaching tens. Currently, JINPAT has the capability to mass produce optical fibre slip rings with up to 10 channels to meet the requirements of most optical fibre slip ring applications.

Contact rings that incorporate high frequency contact rings are commonly used in radar, electronic warfare and satellite communication systems, facilitating signal transmission between antennas and bases. Contact rings that incorporate optical fibres, known as electro-optic contact rings, offer high noise immunity and high signal bandwidth, making them the preferred choice for many popular industrial devices.

One of the most common applications for slip rings is in electro-optical equipment such as electro-optical turntables. Slip rings used in this application or in other electro-optical devices are also referred to as electro-optical equipment slip rings. It is important to distinguish these from contact rings that have electro-optic components built into them. These electro-optical equipment slip rings from JINPAT often contain SDI signals. However, with the widespread adoption of optical communication technology in various sectors, optical fibre slip rings may also appear in electro-optical equipment slip rings as signal modules in the future.

In addition to products that integrate power, standard electrical signals, high frequency signals and optical signals, some slip rings also include pneumatic and hydraulic modules for the transmission of oil, water, steam and other gases. These slip rings can be categorised as pneumatic and hydraulic slip rings or even pneumatic and hydraulic electro-optical slip rings when optical signals are involved. JINPAT offers a wide range of slip rings with integrated pneumatic and hydraulic modules, allowing customers to select the most suitable slip ring depending on their specific needs.
